In Australian Composers on Polaroid analogue instant photographic materials provide an unpredictable outcome with imagery.
I chose to execute a series of portraits photographing some of Australia’s most respected composers of classical music, jazz and sound art. The portraits are shot on instant film which provides 8.5x10.8cm prints.
My idea had been to create images which refer to the creation of music... fluid and unpredictable. These prints are scanned into very large digital files using a high resolution Heidelberg flatbed scanner. The images are then retouched to provide a one metre wide image which remains true to the original instant print.
I received funding for this project via a Crowdfunding campaign on Pozible, a matching grant from Creative Partnerships and unwavering support from The Australian Music Centre. This series has been purchased by the National Library of Australia.
