Jim Rolon

Local portraits, in collaboration with the composer Andrew Ford, was an exhibition at the Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre from September 27th, 2008 to January 18th, 2009. Seventy portraits were produced in Miller and Robertson NSW Australia. Andrew recorded and edited interviews with the subjects about their favourite pieces of music. This was our first attempt (working together) to expand the photographic portrait with another medium. The series was shot on film. For me, this exhibition was all about making seemingly ordinary lives accessible in a sympathetic, or at least interesting manner. 

Local Portraits was curated by Kon Gouriotis. An hour long radio program describing the experience of the exhibition, produced by Anni Heino, was broadcast on ABC Radio National.
